Equipping Heavy Weapons - Tactica Tuesday

Building a list in Infinity can be quite daunting. You want to make a perfect list when you throw down with your opponent.  Hell, making your list might be hindered just by misunderstanding the particular purpose of your models.  I like being able to give some good, solid advice that you can immediately apply to begin winning your games.  Here's the next batch: Give your elite models the elite options.
Why?

Infinity uses a points formula.  The cost and usage of a MULTI Sniper Rifle is the same across the board: eight points. The still very useful HMG? Eight points as well. You want to get on the Space Magic train? Normal Hacking Device and HD+ are eight points while Assault and Defensive Hacking Devices are six points.  Light Grenade Launchers are four points,  Spitfires are five points and Missile Launchers are five points.

What makes this fair in Infinity is the Support Weapons Cost (SWC).  The more elite a model is, the more costly the SWC is to equip them with superior firepower. A Spitfire on a Light Infantry is 1 SWC, easily becomes 1.5 SWC on Airborne Deployment and 2 SWC with Heavy Infantry. There are some weapons that are the same SWC cost across all unit types, such as the MULTI Sniper Rifle. When you start out, you might want to pinch as many points as possible by spreading your Support Weapons across the most amount of models but don't.

If you're going to give out an 8 point gun, give it to models with the higher BS.  Light Infantry usually have the game winning properties of  Forward ObserverDoctor or Engineer.  Medium and Heavy Infantry lack those sort of options, so the way they contribute is by being skillful with the Support Weapons.  That way, when your Specialist is sent out to score an objective, the MI/HI is able to provide cover fire.  Support Weapons boxes are great for Sectorials because Link Teams provide a BS and Burst boost to compensate for the lack of elites, which Penemue breaks down in this comparison.

There are exceptions but as you start out, play with this suggestion until you know when to break it.
