The Imperial Service was developed by the Emperor himself, after one of the myrid Triad in Yu Jing overstepped its bounds and made a fool of the entire régime, in a way that was impossible to cover up. "Beware the wrath of a gentle man" was the warning given, but it was not heeded until it was too late. Now the Imperial Service sectorial (ISS) has carte blanche to punish transgressors of the law, wherever they may hide...
And the mechanics of the sectorial play very well into the fluff justification. The ISS has a tremendously easy time of hunting down Camo wherever it hides, and often takes very few penalties to fire on even the best-hidden of models. Here's a short list of some of the sectorial's other strengths, as I see them:
1 - Access to Cheap Orders
Kuang Shi are 5 points each, and a package of 4 + Celestial Guard Controller is only 33 points and 0.5 SWC. This gives you a Smoke LGL as well, so you can cover the advance of your units and synergizes well with all the MSV2s in-faction.
2 - Access to Heavy Links without Cubes
Wu Ming are solid beefy heavies that can be hard to hack (Faerie Dust, Tinbot L2, strong defensive hackers in-faction) and are completely immune to Sepsitor. They also pack specialist options in their link. More information on this fantastic link here.
3 - Loads of MSV2 + Sensor
Camo models basically cannot hide from the ISS, if you're just willing to spend a few orders. The Hsien (HI), Bao (LI) and Rui Shi (REM) have MSV2s; the Crane (HI) and Zhanying (LI) have Sensor; the Lu Duan (REM) has an MSV1. You have access to so many Camo-hunting tools that your opponents will need to be very careful when they expose their hidden units. Remember that models with Sensor can also make Triangulated Fire attacks to punch through Camo-type defences and Cover, so you really have a tonne of options to choose from. Plus, linking gives Sixth Sense L2, which makes Camo an even worse choice against the Imperial Service...
4 - High WIP

5 - ALEPH Support
Like many sectorials, the Imperial Service gets a little "something extra" from another faction. In our case, that something extra is a brace of combat remotes and a 6-4 WIP 15 Specialist. All of these models are very capable in their own right, and using a Hacker to buff up your bots with Assisted Fire is an excellent idea as well.
6 - Legal Bounty Hunting
The Imperial Service has legal access to all Authorized Bounty Hunters, including the named ones like Lucien Sforza and Miranda Ashcroft. Normally, you can only run these models in sectorial (vanilla is ok) if your opponent is ok with mercenary use, but the Imperial Service has tournament-legal access to them for when it really counts. They offer good damage at a cheap price because of their Irregular status, and can bring all kinds of interesting toys to the table (including Holoprojector).
7 - Su Jian
The Su Jian is a transformer. TRANSFORMER. And if that wasn't enough to sell you, it's a fast-moving model packing an entire swiss army's worth of weapons (Spitfire, Panzerfaust, Light Flamethrower...). Yes, this unit is available to vanilla Yu Jing, but the Imperial Service's vanilla cousin can't fuel a Su Jian with an entire combat group of Kuang Shi orders, can it?
What do you think about the Imperial Service? Did I miss anything? Post below in the comments with your views on this awesome sectorial!

Good breakdown of the faction. That transformer really wants me to try the faction. Having AVA 1 on a ninja is a nice perk with the buffs to CC and stealth. Also, I would reiterate how awesome Kuang Shi are. Chain Rifles with Exploding bodies are very nice.
ReplyDeleteOh, they really are. I know a lot of players who keep them back as order-monkeys, but I've always tended to use them as order-providing mini-missiles.
ReplyDeleteThe Ninja is a solid addition, you're definitely right!
