It's time for the Saturday Showdown! Today, we bring you one of the Ottawa Infinity Association's Aristeia Showdowns, where we take TWO characters and pit them against each other in a Last Man Standing fight to the death!
Character pickings weren't broad this week, so we threw down with the two that we had on hand. In one corner, Penthesilea; in the other, Sun Tze v.2
Now, this match appeared to be a bit one-sided at the onset, because Sun couldn't use any of his Lieutenant abilities. That's ok, though, because Sun Tze doesn't care about ALEPH recreation jerks: he's tougher and has better stats and a pseudo-wound!
Ohhhh wait...Pen's one of those recreation jerks, too. Well, we'll just have to see how things go. Here are some things the fierce competitors bring to the table:
Sun - BS13, NWI, X-Visor 2, Multi-Rifle
Pen - BS13, NWI, ODD, 8-6 Mov, Nanopulser
Sun's got ranged supremacy with his Visor, but he has no real way of getting around Pen's ODD. Penny, on the other hand, has a way to get in quick (Motorcycle) and stay protected while she does (ODD), though Sun is just going to pretend her Nanopulser is a pathetic little Chain-Colt so she'll want to use her Combi to mow him down. With NWI and ARM2, this might be harder than it looks.
Here's a broad overview of the table we played on. You can see Penthesilea's deployment near the bottom there.
Here's Sun's deployment, parked behind the objective with a line of fire down the table in case of rapid bike assault.
Sun wins the first turn (we roll off on the WIP stat) and drops Suppression Fire to keep Penny at bay. She can avoid entering it with her Impetuous move, but this will slow her down.
Penny takes advantage of Sun's static position and the LoF-blocking terrain to...
...zip up the board on the opposite flank. Don't forget that each competitor only has two orders a turn (plus Impetuous), so she isn't able to blitz up and destroy Sun immediately.
She is, however, able to get a better vantage and better Cover.
On Sun's next turn, he drops the idea of keeping up Suppression Fire at his current location and...well, relocates backwards.
He then sets up another Suppression Fire, anticipating Penny's approach from the left flank.
Here's a far shot of what the current situation looks like. Sun's got Cover against the far right area, while keeping up Suppression Fire against the left - hoping that Penthesilea will have to make some hard choices.
On Penny's turn, her player decides to snake around the field again and engage Sun where he originally laid down his Suppression Fire.
Now he's a bit out of position, though at least he thought ahead and snagged some Cover just in case Penthesilea took advantage of her mobility.
The ALEPH biker lines up her long shot at Sun, not wanting to be caught out of Cover. Her ODD works very well to deflect shots, but it works even better with a further -3. She opens up on Sun.
He proves to be just outside the +3 range of her Combi, so she's firing at him with -6. Sun needs a 4 to hit against her 7, and manages to flub his return-fire. Penny manages to get a single hit, and Sun rolls...
A 2 for his ARM roll. Ouch.
That puts him into NWI mode, and he voluntarily stays put with Valour because he knows Penthesilea is out of orders.
On Sun's turn, he opens up with two DA rounds and burst supremacy, managing to score a pair of hits on Penthesilea. She rolls...
Not enough to live. Two failed ARM rolls later, and Sun Tze stands - battered and bruised, but not broken.
Sun Tze v2 stands as today's Aristeia victor. Catch us next time for some more crazy character-on-character Last Man Standing action!
Well, maybe I'm a bit late to the party but it looks like a really funny idea, anyway, some time ago I was thinking about something like this but with Morats, concretely a reproduction of the Morat Sotarak (the challenge to decide which regiment has the honor of starting the battle), problem is that it's an inequal fight, mostly due to the fact contenders range from the lowly Vanguards to the heavyli armored Sogarats, Raizot Brigade being only allowed to contest with a dismounted pilot, the idea is to add a member from each regiment and randomly assign them to the players (or assigning them inversely to each player's tactical prowess), even as unbalanced as it sounds I think it would focus a lot on micro tactics, each player having to use every asset of his model and good tactics to win an advantage over the others, well, I don't know if anyone will read this wall of text but I just wanted to share a cool (at least I think it is) idea I had, bye.
