SATORI Introduction

With the end of Tevesh's run of Campaign Paradiso, we bring you our next big Infinity campaign project.  SATORI was a monthly campaign that we ran for most of last year, where Spec Ops models could be remade for every game and "falling behind" didn't actually mean that you were screwed.  For the next handful of Mission Mondays, I'll be posting our SATORI scenarios for you to use with your own gaming groups, starting with today's introduction to the campaign.  I'll also provide handy links to PDF versions of the scenarios, in case you want them ready to go!

Scenarios
Each month saw the release of a new scenario.  They scaled up in points, starting with 100 in January and February, and going up every two months.  Fireteams of any kind were not allowed until the points totals reached 200.

Spec Ops models were also permitted, and could have a new loadout each game.  They also could not be permanently killed in SATORI.

Scores
SATORI Scores were designed to engage and reward players, even if they couldn't show up every month.  As such, every faction (including sectorials) got its own score, so players could track how their faction was doing overall.  Players contributed to the score of a given faction by playing that faction, but they could only add to a faction's score once per month.  Faction scores came directly from objective points gained in missions.

Aside from faction scores, players all had their own scores, which worked as follows:
(once per month max., each)

  • 3 points for playing a SATORI game
  • 1 point for a win
  • 1 point for a battle report (any format - just share your battle with others on our forum!)
  • 1 point for playing a game against a player who has not yet played that month (only available once you have already played a game)

For example, Penemue (Ariadna) played Endalyon (JSA) in January. Penemue scored 4vp and Endalyon scored 5vp. This means that Ariadna now has 4 points, while the JSA has 5 points. If someone then played Yu Jing and scored 4vp, the JSA would still only have 5 points because sectorials are distinct from vanilla factions.

As players, both Penemue and Endalyon each played a game (+3), and Endalyon won (+1). Penemue decided to write up a quick report featuring the major achievements of his key players (+1). Both players now have 4 points in the overall standings.

Spec Ops
Spec Ops models gained experience as normal, but their experience was calculated differently in SATORI. Rather than basing their exp score on a player's total victory points, SATORI calculated the highest victory points scored in a given round and made that available to everyone as experience for the next month. This meant that Spec Ops models always had access to the same level of equipment and skills, and that no player was left behind even if they missed a month.

This also means that playing often (with other factions) was the best chance to get the highest exp - and the most interesting Spec Ops models - for everyone!

Best of all, all Spec Ops started with 5 exp!

Post-Game Responsibilities
This is useful for any potential TOs for SATORI.  As players in a SATORI game, it was each person's responsibility to get the following information to their TO after a match:

  • The names of both players
  • Which faction was played by which player
  • What objective point totals were achieved and for what objectives (incl. Classified Objectives)

Rewards
This part, we'll leave entirely up to you!

Come back next Mission Monday for the first SATORI scenario!  Here is the promised link to the WELCOME TO SATORI document!
