Listen Up, Newbies!

We've been looking at Marc C's terrain Kickstarter this week, and he was kind enough to share a document he uses to inform new players in his own meta.  Enjoy!

LISTEN UP NEWBIES !!
Are starters a good buy ? Yes.
Can I play competitively with a starter+enough models to reach 300 pts? Maybe. Its all matter of which ITS mission you are playing.  After 3 years of play I still use all 5 models of my Imperial Service starter, but never all 5 in the same list. I have 2 main lists - in an ITS tournament you are allowed to play two lists.

Your First Games
DON’T obsess with building a 300 points list from the get go. Its a bad idea. Play 2-3 ANNIHILATION mission with just the starters. The starters are not balanced. You may lose all your first games. Victory is secondary at this juncture. You want to master the basic mechanics covered in pages 7 to 45. If you think it's truly unfair to have less points than your opponent, add 1-2 proxies to your list to reach the same number of points. The SWC should be 3 or 3.5 maximum.

Step Two [The Basics]
Build a list of 200 points (SWC 4) with 7-10 models. Play 6-7 games. Familiarize yourself with the Special Skills of your list and Hacking Rules. Play the FRONTLINES ITS Mission, but ignore the Classified Objectives.

Step Three - Standard ITS Format
You are now ready to play 300 points with 9 or 10 models* (and 6 SWC!). You will need a minimum of 4 Specialists in your list in order to score the objectives of the ITS missions. Use the SUPREMACY mission for your first 3-4 games [to get used to the format].

*Ariadna and Haqqislam can easily do 11-15 model armies divided in 2 Battle groups (9-10) + (2-5).

SWC - SUPPORT WEAPON COST
You don’t need the exact number, but having 75% of the maximum is a good rule. I often play with 0.5 or 1 less than the maximum.

LINK TEAMS + TAGS + SNIPERS
At first these will seem unbeatable. WRONG! They are a 50/50 proposition. You just haven't learned how to beat them yet. Template weapons (shotguns, missiles, grenades) are deadly against link team members that are too close to each other. TAGs are vulnerable to Hackers. Make sure you have REPEATERs in your army to extend the range of your Hackers. A well deployed sniper can be deadly but can be handled: AD Combat Jump models, Climbing Plus models or Infiltrating TO Camo models are good against them.

A good ITS list will strike a balance between the need to remove the opponent's models (reducing his order pool) and scoring the objectives. That is achieved with a good mix of weapons and special skills. One RAMBO guy can kill a lot of models but it won't give you victory. Victory Points are the last tie breaker in INFINITY. I've won numerous games with only 3-4 models left on the table while my opponent still had 6-7. Why? Cause I played the mission instead of focusing in killing things.
