THE DANCER- BMG ROLES

As a new segment here on CKP- We are going to start addressing specific "types" of units- defined by their capabilities/ uses, and battlefield roles. This helps us in other articles (so we can refer to a specific "type" of unit, rather than listing specific troops. These roles are not all encompassing, and some more expensive characters can serve as multiple roles- this is just defining the "minimum requirements" to fill the role.

Today, we are talking about the DANCER

WHAT MAKES THE DANCER......DANCE?

In a word, Mobility. A dancer moves quickly, evades harm and notice. A dancer can get to where they are needed quickly and free of harm- slipping past the enemy without much engagement.

A 12cm BMD makes a dancer's mobility a cut above the rest. Able to outpace another model when neither have MOV lets a dancer control engagements, moving away after attacking and being free of recourse. Acrobat is doubly valuable, as it gives a free "stand" and ignores obstacles when moving.

A Move above 3 is also usually required for a dancer, anything less is not enough to close distances, and can be outrun by most things in the game. Move also helps pass agility checks- something Dancers do quite a bit of (jumping, dodging, etc)

A batclaw can serve to fill these first two requirements for the most part.

A high DEFENSE keeps the dancer safe from harm, because they often are not doing much harm themselves. They tend to shy away from serious conflict, and if anything heavy gets to them, they are usually pretty finished. Acrobats and dodgers are great here too, as GUNS ARE SCARY

WHAT DOES A DANCER DO?
Claim objectives- This is the great core role of a dancer- Quickly closing on valuable objectives to scoop up victory points. Dancers are, for the most part, unable to do much harm on their own, so they earn their keep by scoring VP early and often, and can fend off attacks from smaller goons

Set up "hits"- While a Dancer may not be able to put the hurt on a foe, they can certainly catch them, and if played well, they can slow that foe so a more suitable unit can catch up and finish the job. Grabs, Trips, or even just moving into the way will slow most enemies enough so a slower troop can get in to the fight!

HARASSMENT- While this does not ACTIVELY gain VP, this is a crucial, and (so fun) role of a dancer. Dancers have two major things that are worth harassing in a standard game;

First and most importantly is gunmen. By closing the distance to gunmen quickly, Dancers can sometimes prevent a shooter from ever managing to get a shot off, by staying close (inside the 5cm bubble) and keeping up the pressure. This way, as single model can completely nullify an assault rifle

Secondly, is enemy objectives. It is worth sending off a model to mess with your opponent's scoring, and there is no better model then a dancer. Just have a look at Tevesh's article about how Great defensively, they can be!
