Tactica Tuesday- Easing into N3

With the "Finally Full N3 rules™" released, We have begun to play some Infinity in ernest, and I have found there are many new things to keep track of when getting into the game (again from N2 or even for new players)

1. Try to avoid space magic for the first few games-
Trust us on this one
It is fun, it is interesting, but it is a huge new level of needless complexity in your first few games. Agree to not use hacking (even if you have to have a hacker) just to help ease some minds.

2. Keep the range page open
Ive gotta fire my photo guy.....
You have played enough games of N2 to know the ranges, so it is going to be that much harder to adapt to these new ranges- many may seem like they haven't changed, but many have changed a LOT. Give a quick glance to your rules reference before rolling dice, just to make sure you have the ranges right- you might be surprised! Also with weapons spread across the book and the new PDF.... you will need a few devices!

3. The "first turn advantage" has really changed
N3 has introduced some heavy penalties to the first player for N3, from command token use, buffed LoL, and to standard scenarios like "Nimbus Zone" means that, at least without a TAG or drop-troop, first turns are going to be a lot less of the murder-blowouts from before, and more a "set-up" turn, with troops moving up to optimal positioning, laying suppressive fire (in a coordinated order), and maybe scoring a few VP. I am curious to see, over time, if we slowly slip back to the first turn alpha strike- but for now, it seems like the first turn has been pretty well muzzled (about 60% of the time....)

4. Multiple Battle groups are IN
With command token usage, Spec shots, Hacker supportware, and most model point costs going down ~10%, it has become perfectly normal to have at least a second battle group with a few orders. Now, if you are building a list and find yourself with 11 models, that could be perfectly OK. Give it a whirl, see what you think!

What else has everyone noticed in early games of N3?
