5 More Henchmen

Penemue previously wrote on What BMG Needs which boils down to Henchmen.  I agree with him and I've got a few suggestions with five different types of Henchmen that BMG would be able to utilize for this Wishlist Wednesday.  I'm ignoring the wackier suggestions, like Scarecrow or Mr. Freeze (though hockey gangsters and polar bears intrigues me...(focus Tevesh focus)) but more bang for your buck sort of selection.  If only to have more options in a Gang War.

5. Iron Heights Prisoners
Who are Iron Heights Prisoners? Well, they're the criminals that hail from Green Arrow's city.  There's loads of options to differentiate them from Blackgates or Arkham Loonies. More generic thugs available for anybody for hire is a definite plus! With watching the Arrow TV show, they've shown that they've got capable criminals.  They might not be Batman level of overly capable criminals but KM has made an Arrow TV-version so he needs some thugs he can take on.  Bring on the Dollmaker, The Count, Shrapnel and Clock King - or some combination of generic thugs.

4. Team Arrow
Another angle with the TV version is having some Henchmen to flesh out the Law Forces, Batman and Arrow.  If Arrow and Flash allow crossovers and team-ups, I'm sure the Caped Crusader can put John Diggle, Felicity Smoak and Det. Quenten Lance. Diggle and Lance would be bruisers with guns but what would Felicity bring to the table?  As she's gone Undercover to verify Loot, I can easily see Target Loot within her wheel house. with her smarts I think it's fair to say she's both a Detective and an Informer. I've talked about brains represented in-game, she's definitely that within Arrow.  Plus it would show a woman who isn't to the gills in waif-fu but would be Scientific.

3. Poison Ivy Brainwashed Minions
The simplest version I can think of is that she can hire any Henchmen in the game as long as they're not Elite.  Perhaps it costs $50 or $100 to hire these models.  Perhaps they have limitations placed on them, such as they're Stupid or Scientific (study them brainwashed dudes).  We've covered her making out, could we have more variety than Defensive Acrobat Trio? Barring this, just make her the obedient tree zombies we all want. There are all sorts of possibilities, including using her money to really improve on her tree zombies.  I'd want to brain control to be simple so that players can cross pollinate model choice. Poison Ivy is a Leader, she's theoretically paying for abilities she can't really use. It's a common trope with her to have brainwashed people, why not give the lady a break?

2. Corrupt Cops
With a simple tag of "Elite (Corrupt Cops)" with the mafioso getting an Elite Boss for Corrupt Cops, you can have Renee Montoya, Harvey Bullock, Jim Corrigan, Rebecca Mulcahey, Arnold Flass, Jordan Rich, Timothy Munroe and I'm sure there's plenty of others after more than a cursory Google search.  Besides cops in the mafia's pockets, Two-Face and Black Mask could easily be using corrupt cops as well.  I like it when even basic goons have names, because it shows how much character and potential a Batman game has got.  This would also flesh out the Batman faction and even generic Law Forces.  The flavour factor alone on what heroes of Gotham and Starling city have to contend with, using the corruption even as they try to defeat it is awesome.

1. Bane
Seriously.  This guy has only had one release, a year ago.  Give the big guy some love.  I'm not a big DC guy, so my knowledge of Bane was mostly that Batman Movie but I found he was an intelligent combatant in the Batman video games.  I knew about Knightfall and I wasn't surprised by the turn of events in The Dark Knight Rises but I've only begun to read the Knightfall arc that was released in the early 90s. Did you know that Bane has a whole crew of guys?  Bird, Trogg and Zombie all have distinct characteristics and could easily stand with Bane's Smash, McGregor and Dallas. More character Mercenaries for his band. And that's without dipping into Strawberry Bane's (YouTube) right hand man of Barsad.

What sort of Henchman would you like to see to expand the Batman Miniature Game?

  1. I am still not convinced more gang specific henchmen is the answer on the villain side. Two to three 30-60pt universal henchman (civvie thugs, not prisoners for once) would go a long way to filling in slots for Bane, Two Face, etc., and give a base for future gangs to work off. Not everyone has to be a special snowflake; faceless goons is fine for supporting cast.

The Law factions is where there is a bigger issue atm. There is a real need for a 20-50pt/$0 melee option. Either a named beat cop and/or baton wielding riot police would help list building a ton. Another gun toting cop is not the answer.

    1. That's why I'd like a corrupt cop. You can hire them as police or Organized Crime. So many options!

And yeah, that's part of the reason why I don't care too much about Equipment per gang. I'm already bankrupt spending my money on guns.

  2. I’ve wondered why there aren't more generic street thugs/gangers. They would certainly be more thematic with Dark Knight joker than the clowns.

    1. My guess is it is for sales reasons. 'Joker Gangsters' vs 'Regular Gangsters' - I can see which would draw people's attentions.

But with Organized Crime, who knows?

  3. As a Bane fan, let me recommend an article Chris Sims wrote about him back in 2011:

For me, Bane is a consummate professional, making sure all the angles are covered. S'why I look to team him up with other competent baddies, like Deadshot and Copperhead.
