Infinity Rulings - Wishlist Wednesday

You have no idea how long I have waited for this day. An official doling out answers like a drug peddler in the middle of an NA meeting. I don't know about you guys but I got tired of looking through so many different documents and forums for a rule answer, I am glad that Treehouse begun a N3 FAQ. It is troublesome to give a player a ruling that you know is correct but for the life of you can't cite the location.I'm going to list today on my Wishlist Wednesday some of my favourite rulings - even if they're just really bizarre. Rulings in big text, commentary in small.
Thank You Locksmith - I salute you for this Gif!
Direct Template Weapons require a target. You cannot place the Template to determine the target, unlike indirect Speculative Fire.
I argued about the precedent in Evading Injuries and I'm glad this is the result.

Engaging a Climbing+ model that ends up Climbing means that the Engaging model cannot issue any AROs or Orders. They're effectively frozen.
This is the first case of bizarre. The reason is that no Orders can be issued aside from Climb if you're Climbing and CC limits your Orders to CC or Dodge. So, until the Engaged Climbing+ model decides to Dodge away (which would cause a fall), they're stuck.

Models unable to Climb that declare Engage against a Climbing+ model that moves onto a wall have their ARO changed to Idle.
Speaking of another weird Climbing corner case. So, if you ever want your Aragoto to jump on a Gaki, be prepared to have your ARO cancelled.

AD is not a Movement Skill, meaning Stealth from Martial Arts wouldn't apply.
This seems completely counter-intuitive to me; however, I think it is better for the game state. You need to be able to guard your back against AD3 attacks.

Unconscious models still invoke the Engaged state if an enemy walks into base contact.
This seems silly to me, but it does leave some strategy of having someone bleed on the corner. Speaking of leaving models in strange places...

Unconscious models may no longer be voluntarily removed from the board.
This is to combat moving models into Battle Groups, so it is a very odd self-restriction. Prior my opponent and I would agree to remove models for expediency but with changing Battle Groups being a thing, perhaps using Stun Only Ammo might be a fun strategy to employ. Plus you don't give away the Coup de Grace Classified. Too bad you can't kill your own models.

When a model is killed, any hidden information is provided.
This way you can find out if a model is a Lt. or Chain of Command. I guess players got tired of "Hmm... It seems that if they only got 3 Lt. options, why is it always seem like I got to kill them all for LoL?" This also opens up some design space for Objectives.

Base contact with an Unconscious model still cancels any further Movement.
Yeah, you can walk away for free but it still causes models to stop. Inference: I guess this also means that they're blind outside of CC too.

Kinematika extends the Engage ARO limit.
This has been settled for a while but I want to reinforce this as the rulebook doesn't come out and says that.

Suppression Fire does not induce -3 BS to models that are outside of their Range.
The stipulation is that SupFire penalizes FtF roles, so shoot outside of 24" to avoid the -3 BS.

Deactivator doesn't stop a Mine from detonating.
This is a change from how Minesweeper worked in N2 but makes sense under the tighter rules of N3. If you want the +3 to your Deactivator, make sure a friendly model is in the way - but then they'll probably just shoot the model attempting to use Deactivator.

Marksmanship L2 adds Shock as a type to the weapon but if the weapon does not do Normal damage, it gains an additional die to represent the Shock.
This means Marksmanship models with Breaker Rifle, such as the Zhayedan, do damage in the form of one save against Armour and another against BTS.

Viral prevents Transmutation and therefore any characteristics of the second profile.
This is a specific ruling for the Fraacta. Fraacta counts as a 2W model but has 1W on two separate profiles, the before and after of Transmutation due to its Symbiote. The Fraacta is a 2W model, it falls Unconscious but does not die if it only takes 1W from Viral ammo.

Minelayers may no longer deploy Mines past the centre unless the Minelayer does as well.
This certainly stops some shenanigans. The idea is the the Minelayer's Mines follow the same restrictions means they can't be placed in Exclusion Zones or forcing an Infiltrator past the centre if they want that benefit. This also applies to Crazy-Koalas.

Negative Feedback and ODD does not strip any of the benefits. When the NFB is cancelled, any normal benefits immediately resume.
This means if you are an Impersonator due to Cybermask, you'd benefit from -3 of Surprise Shot in addition to ODD. That's -9 when a Custodier decides to make your life hell.

Transferring hidden units to a different Battle Group is permissible.
That AD or TO Camouflage rampage just got so much easier. Remember, there needs to be space in the Battle Group as Unconscious models still occupy room.

Saturation Zones preemptively reduce Burst.
So, if you have B4 and wish to split it you wouldn't be able to target 4 models, the best you could do is target 2 models with B1 each.

If you're looking for more rulings, we already covered the official first N3 FAQ. Here's also a slight history lesson in different rules changes through Infinity's History.

  1. Most of these aren't surprising, and only a few of them really seem likely to come up. But I do think it is a bad idea for them to be just having all these answers on the forum alone. Not everyone reads that shit, infact allot of people don't. So during a game you are at the mercy of people to remember these things and have to taek their word for it. Most notably the being engaged with an unconscious model thing seems like it could be a big deal in certain situations.

Personally I would prefer to think of them as unofficial clarifications until they are in a pdf in the downloads section and available to all. But again most of these either seem obvious or are so corner case that I don't really care with only a few exceptions. But this is a hard game to learn when I just had 1 book to read, not that I apparently am supposed to read all the stuff posted on the second craziest form on the internet....

    Thanks;
    Mike

  2. The one ruling I dislike is the Negative Feedback / ODD ruling. It's already bad enough that some models can impersonate/holoproject...and now they still benefit from their -6 after the gig is up? Bleh.
