I just recently got my hands on the "Merc Set 1" (otherwise known as the "Bane henchmen blister"), so in the vein of my Ivy and Deathstroke posts, I thought I'd share the content with you all.
These mercs come in surprisingly few pieces. Ted Hunter is entire body (including head) + arm and shotgun, while Mohawk is legs + torso + head + right arm. Here's a shot of what it all looks like:
In all honesty, I had to do a fair bit of work to get these pieces to fit. Hunter's shotgun arm looks like it should slide smoothly together with his upper-arm socket, but it took a jumble of green stuff to make it flush. I'm not particularly good with green stuff, so don't mind the shoddy work:
I don't usually go overboard with green stuff, so what you see is what it took to fill the gap. Other than this detail, though, Ted Hunter is a solid, well-detailed model.
Mohawk is next, and he's a bit worse than Hunter. The model is, overall, still solid - but the amount of filling required was silly. I'm still not done, but this should give you an idea of what's required:
Even after filing down the tabs on his waist, I still needed to add green stuff to even things out. Like I said, I'm no expert with green stuff, but I do try to be frugal so all you see is more or less necessary.
Given the position of Mohawk's head, you'd think that he looks fine from the front, despite the large yet-to-be-filled gap on the back of his neck/torso. Well, here he is:
As you can see, this isn't the hottest fit. It was, however, the only way I could make both front and back look ok. It shouldn't really be visible from tabletop height, but that's not really comforting to sculptors/painters.
Overall, I'm really happy to have these henchmen...but they're not exactly a hobbyist's dream.

Oh that's a little disappointing. I just started working on the Bane crew box and had a similar problem with Smash. I was hoping that the newer releases would be getting better in terms of fit.
ReplyDeleteI throught that the new blisters were easier to assemble. I just receive the Loeb policemen pack and they are a dream to assemble: few bits (the inspector is one piece) and they perfectly fit together.
ReplyDeleteThese guys were certainly easier to assemble than Smash (that two-socketed-arm-with-neither-arm-fitting was awful), but not by much. Lucky that you had an easy time with Loeb!
